Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in North America. In the United States, Cardiovascular disease claimed 931,108 American lives in 2001. That compares with 553,768 deaths due to cancer; 101,537 deaths due to accidents; and 14,175 due to AIDS. According to the National Institutes for Health the risk for developing coronary heart disease (CHD) is that one out of every two men under forty and one out of every three women will develop CHD. Identifying early onset of cardiac disease is not easy and it is very expensive. For this reason the first symptom of cardiac problems is often catastrophic.
